THE PICTURE PETITION
Sir,—l beg to trespass on your valuable' apace for a few lines in order to voice my disapproval of the 60-eallcd petition that one is asked to sign at the picture theatres. I trust that the picture-lov-ing public will refrain from signing this petition its a mark of disapproval of tho way the picture theatres exploit the public. Each and every time a picture that will be at all popular comes our way. HP prices. Not long ago wo could visit .any picture show for sixpence, now the price is 2s. 7d. (for a decent seat), and evidently the limit ia not reached yet. Now is the people's chance to Ret a bit of their own back. After all, the pictures should be an entertainment at a reasonable price, ana if the prices are to Temain at the present extortionate rates, then I will gladly sign a petition. to close the picturo theatres, and the power and coal so saved would help in a measure to relieve the restricted train service. Why cannot our council start municipal pictures at reasonable prices—say, 6d. and Is.? If the Town Hall waa used foi' Ibis purpose, it would soon, have Ilia effect of bringing the other picture managers into line, and also be a source of revenue to the city.—l am, etc. VICTDI.
