The proprietors of the picture, theatres are becoming nervous lest their businesses should ' l>2 closed up altogether on tho grounds Ihat it is' not essential to tho life of the community, and an economy in electric current (and coal) could be effected by closing them up. On what grounds exactly they base the assumption that such extreme action is likely is not quite clear, but that they do believe that some such move is possible was proved on Saturday, when the public was asked to sign a petition against the closing of the picture theatres. A Dominion' reporter asked the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) if any action of tho kind was intended or mooted, and was informed that he knew nothing whatever about it, and could not see why such action was being taken by the picture theatre proprietors. \
