C.J.C. GRAND NATIONAL MEETING (Special Correspondent.) Christchurch, Außiist Iβ. The Canterbury Jockey Clubs <->raud National Meeting was concluded 10-flaj in chili weather. The attendance was. good, and I lie course in good-ordw. ine totahsutor handled .e5H,526, walong -EIIjV 3-11 lor the meelititf. as against XVtl,m\ ut the I wo days' gal'tiering last year. 'flit? IjiK etußplechnse was a poor race, mid early in the contest the Mttle-faneied Merrie Lad placed the issue beyond doubt. , Gang Awa' was not the same horse he was in Hie "Beaufort Steeples, and Master l.uuin broke down early in the coulest. Form-Up put up a great pertonnanoe br winning tho concluding event under US!'. O.b. ' , TT I ' Of tiho five runners in the Hunters Plato, Sonny was a better favourite than Gay Light. Winslow made play for six fuAoiiKS, when the favourite ran to the front,' but lie was soon supplanted by Gay Light. The last-named was m charge to the distance, wheru the favourite again appeared, and in tho run home ho won comfortably. Sport was a poor third, and the oShera were .beaten off. /Ihe winner liad to undergo the ordeal oi a protest, but tho decision went in his favour. . ■ There was agaiu a field of five in the AjOesliury Steeples, Graftelk. being favourite, wil-li San Sebastian and Lawsuit nqually backed. The iast-named set ft strong pace, 'but his jumping was faulty, ■fthd at each obateele Graftella. caught him. At the mile post tho lost-named took charge, but San Sebastian' and Lawsuit wore Jiandr, and with two fences to go San Sebastian look charge, and ran in a comfarta, ble winner from Lawsuit, with Lopliella close up. Traditor ivas beaten, off, and The Grand fell at the kennels double the first time.

The Heathcota Handicap saw soma spirited speculation between Ecbekah, Gold Kip, and Lionskin. Eebekat, Borodino; and Lionskin were the quickest away, while Gold Kip and Kilfceo were in the rear of the field. Bounding tho homo turn, Gazique and Gold Kip were in the rear, and LionskiE and Eebekan were clear of the field. At tilio distance tihe loader* compounded, and All Over shot out. He was immediately challenged by Risingham, and a few yards further Gold Kip shot up on the outside. The two crossed tho line together, with Potentiai'.itv cilosa up. Gold Kip got the verdict by a head, with Itisingham the same distance in front of All 'Over. Bebekah broke down. ' .

Publio opinion was divided as to the merits of the candidates for the Hack Hurdlee, Reformation, Master Moutea, and Tip-Up carrying over four figures. Tip-Up and Bed Cent set a fast pace, with Reformation next, but the chestnut gelding soon jumped himself to the front. Ho was in front with Tip-Up at the last fence, but he struck heavily, and nearly come'down. Tip-Up had to reeiet a strong ohallenge by Wild Pilgrim,.but he won the ra v ce by a head. Master Moutoa was close up third, and Reformation was nest.

The open hunffie race saw the National horses again in action. The betting took a wide range, and Sir Solo did not receive tike support his' form -warranted. Signature and J-eannot 6et a cracking pace, and led Sir Solo down the back, with Omahu in the rear and Sleight-of-Hand tailed off. With half a mile to go Sir Solo joined the leaders, and he was in front at the last fence, eventually winning easily from Signature and Omahu. The latter again jumped badly, but ran a sterling race. Art was prominent to the haM-mile, where he faded out of it. Paraoa lost his rider at the second fence.

Imaribbon 'bad rather a comfortable win in the Kedcliffs Handicap, in which he defeated several better-backed horses. The favourite, Strayshot, began smartly, but after being, prominent into the straight he faded badly, and finished out of ii place. Tama-a-roa was clear.at thedistance, 'but Imaribbon finished well, and beat him easily. Black Mountain was'a poor third.

Only four started in the Lincoln Steeples, Muster Lupin being a better, favourite than' Gang Awa',' while the other pair were neglected. Merry Lad eet a fast pace, and led Gang Awa' and piaster Lupin, but after going a circuit the latter was pulled up, having broken down. Gang Awa J feffl at the mSe post, and Merrio lad won by two furlongs from Polthogue, who got round safely after taking several chances at his fences. It .was found necessary to shoot Maeter Luoin, as his fetlock was broken.

There was a w-ido market for the concluding event, and both Bedshire end Form-Up had over 2000 tickets on them. They were equal favourites, and were in the places at the finish. Kilbqyno led into the straight, when Redshi'ro took charge, but over the final 103" yards the top-wqight drew out, and won decisively. Borodino was a fair third, and then came Pest Haste, Gamecock, and Ki!boyne. ; I RESULTS. By Telenr&ph—Press Association. HUNTERS' PLATE, of 140 sovs. One mile and a half. 1 Sonny, 12st. 51b.
