CASES IN CANTERBURY. Br Telegraph -Press Association. Christchurch, August 14., Twentv-three cases of influenza in North and South Canterbury were reported to the District Health Officer b<* tween Holiday and noon to-day, nine being pneumonic. NOTHING IN THE NATURE OP AN EPIDEMIC. Christchurch, August 14. A fairly large number of cases of pneumonia are reported in Christchurch and some alarm is felt at the prevalence of the disease, but Dr. Chesson, district health officer, and private doctors report that there is nothing in the nature of an epidemic, and if eare is taken most of the patients should havo a.comparatively quick recovery. "There is noJ thing to warrant unduo alarm," are Dr. Chesson's words. ,Dr. Chesson added that the figures did not show that pneumonia was more prevalent now than at this timo last year. Previously it was not a notifiable disease, and as no figures affecting it were compiled it was impossible to know how, far it extended through the district The.position probably was the same as usual.
