A BASELESS RUMOUR
ABOUT SIR JAMES ALLEN,
A report has been published in a Wellington newspaper to the effect that it is the intention of Sir James Alltn to re. tiro from the Government ana tha Reform Party, ami to lead another party. Sir James Allen yesterday made the following statement concerning tho report : "No doubt the report in this morning's newspaper to the effect that it was nij intention to retire immediately from tin. Cabinet was inserted in order to creak dissension, i have given no indication that it is my intention to retire from tho Cabinet, nor is it my wish to do eo as long as my services may bo of ust, to the" Government or to the people in the difficult times which we must face in tho aftermath of the ivar. It seemu to me that personal wishes must be put aside, and that everyone, politicians ana others, should render whatever service they aa-e capable of to bring about peace, contentment, and prosperity. The- suggestion that I am intent upon becoming tho leader of a new political party is entirely without foundation. Tliere' appeal's to bo a very . general feeling throughout the country that every cn'or,, should bo made to secure a strong Gov., ornnieiit, and with this I am in witiro accord."
