Jackson, Mayor of Masterton, and Mrs. Jackson, 'left yesterday for Wellington, where they intend spending a few days' holiday. Tho two-year-old Mulstoin-Friesian heifer, Duchess J.'icljo Pontine, owned by Mr. 11. Melvin, jun., of Manaia, has just completed n year's milking test under Government semi-official supervision. The quantity of milk produced was 19.55511)., and the butter-fat. 6741b., which is said lo bo the New Zealand record for a heifer wiih its first calf. Princess Pietortjo dn Kol, another two-year-old lieii'cir belonging to Mr. Melvi'n, completed a year's test last September, with a production of 15.5771b. of milk, and G2filb. of butter-fat, thereby winning the New Zealand Friosion CattJc-biC'ders' Association's twelve guinea tropin- and gold medal.

He looked on either side for approaching vehicles, but saw none. When he was half-way across tho intersection, Captain Tiiley's ear came along Lincoln Road from the direct ion of the station. Plaintiff immediately put his car into low gear and turned sharply to the left. He could not turn the ear quickly owing to its peculiar construction, but it was 100 late, for the oncoming ear crashed into tho. front wheel of his car, which turned a complete circle and came to a 'standstill almost within its own length. Captain Tiiley's ear was thrown across tho streel.'and crashed through a picket fence. For the defence Captain 'Tilley detailed particulars of the accident and alleged that it was Dr. Cook's car which collided'with his. A few days after the occurrence witness went to see Dr. Conk, who told him that on Hie day in question ho had been in a hurry to arrive at Hie hospital in order to superintend the removal of a patient from the ambulance.
