NEW ZEALAND TROTTING ASSOCIATION

Christchurch, August 13. At the annual meeting, of the New Zealand Trotting Association to-night i the chairman'(Mr. P. Selig) addressed members on , vai'ions phases of tho year's work. Tho popularity of the sport, he said, had grown apace, and since 'the last annual meeting five new clubs had been formed.. Steps, ivere being taken to secure further totalisator permits. Ho emoted,;statistics which showed that racing pe'rnntfl totalled'■ 222 and.trotting-59, and said .that unless facilities were given it wo did ■ 1)9 impossible- for trotting to be established .in new places. : It'had' been admitted by a former .Minister of Internal Affairs .that trotting. clubs had not received tfieir full shave of licenses, and those held in abeyance had since been nbsorbed by the racing clubs. It was not desired that any permits should bo taken away from tho racing clubs, but that iustice should be dono by the Luctslature and.totalisator permits granted to new clubs and to those which at present raced in conjunction with racing clubs. .- The demand for richer stakes would no doubt.be considered, by wcllestablishod clubs. He expressed tho uoinioii that liberal accommodation for the publio should be provided' on all courses. After commenting on tho increased vigilance of stewards and officials, whlcn bad led to ti decided falling off in complaints, he made reference lo tho vexed question of starting, nnd said ho thought it important that there should be only one i system throughout tho Dominion. • "Tho matter had been postponed bv the conference for ono year. In conclusion he mentioned' that next yoar 'tho board would consist of- six South Island and-three North Island representatives.
The report aud balftiice-sheot were adopted. Messrs. P. Selig, 1&. AV. Kitohinjrham, and J. M. Samson (South Island), and Messrs. C. F. Mark and ft. H;- Short (North: Island) were re-elected to the board. The board for 1919-20 is, therefore, the same as last year.
MEETING OF .THE BOARD. Christchurch, August 13. At the meeting of the board of the NewZealand Trotting- Association to-night an application from the newly-formed Tβ Arohn, Club for registration wns granted. A similar application from the North Auckland Club, with headquarters at AVhaiiitorei. was granted, .'subject to the Auckland Trotting Club offering no obicction to the linmo of tho iievr- club.
Mr. J. B. Grant, of Taupiri,' applied for the reinoval of tho disqualification of his Ihorse Striker for competing at an unregistered ineeting- at Taupiri laat Easter. The. application was granted. A.letter was read from 31. Edwards statin? he had had to'iindorgo an operation for a cataract on liin eye, which his medical advisers considered was duo to riding 'in muddy weather. Hβ had been put to considerable' expense, -and t'ha association was asked to-jivo him some financial α-ssistanco. The matter was referred to tho licensing committee.
