BRITISH WAR MEDAL
WINNING DESIGN BY SILVERBADGE ARTIST.
Tho competition among 51 British artists for a design for '.he British war medal has been won (says tho "Daily Mail") "by Mr. William M'Millan, of Ma- Chcyno How, Chelsea. Ho takes the .1:500 prize offered by the Government:. Tho second prize, of .£l5O, goes to Mr. Charles Wheeler, 2 Justice- Wall Studios, Chelsea, and Hie third, <£75, to Mr. O. L. G. Doman, IS Bonneville Road, Clapton Park. .„ . ~ Mr. M'Millan's design will form the reverse of the medal. Mr. M'Millan is a voung British' artist hitherto unknown to fame. He is a silvcr-bata man. who. after serving in 1 ranee lor about a vear with the Oxford and Sucks Light Infantry, was invalided, out. ills training in art was received in London. Ho went to Canada a few years ago, and a 70ft. pediment adorning tho I iovincial Legislature of Saskatchewan, at Kegitia, remains there as a monument to his genius. Two statues of soldiers executed by him have been bought by the Imperial War Museum. Describing his design for the medal, Mr. M'Millan said tho central figure represents St. George, mounted triuiui.liin» over Prussia, Ins horse- trwnpl ng over the Prussian shield.
