Auckland, August 12. A conference convened by tho. Education Board of members of Parliament and educational authorities was held to-day to consider matters for inquiry, Mr.'Banks, chairman of the board in his oponing speech, said tho Council of Education had passed a resolution that no ono child should havo less than U squaro foot of air space, yeteo limited, was the present accommodation that it would take half a million pounds to meet that requirement throughout tho _ Dominion. It was a disgrace that ma country like New Zealand such a condiof affairs should exist. They must do all in their power to bring about improvement. Dr. Eeekic said tho overcrowding in many of the city renools was shocking, only eight square feet, being provided instead of twelve. Something must be done immediately. A forimdablo list of figures was presented i-homng the requirements of the Auckland 1 ravineinl District. ~ , The conference resulted in the Auckland members of Parliament present carrying the following resolution: "That the Auckland members of Parliament present at tho conference v'th the Auckland Lduca. tion Board woke t.o support to tlieii utmost the interests of education, and to that end to act in concert lo \\m Parliament to vote a sufficient sum ol money during tho coming session to place education upon a satisfactory fcoting.
