One, emanating from the Clyde Workers' Soviet, proposes tho establishment of a R«d Army, "revolutionary tribunals to try the men responsible for the treatment of our imprisoned comrades," the seizure of all food, expropriation of property, banks, etc., and the removal of Parlio.ment and local authorities.—"The Times." Clynes, M.P, (Labour), interviewed, said that direct action propos> ed to reverse Labours political endeav. ours, sustituting disorder and violence, which would destroy democratic effort. Sir R. S. Home, Minister for Labour, says that direct action means the end of democracy, empowering a recalcitrant minority to enforce ita decisions upon the majority. "Force, aided by terrorism and blackmail, will become the only instrument of government." ' Mr. Sexton, M.P. YORKSHIRE MINERS TURNED DOWN CONSTITUTIONAL LABOUR STRENGTHENED. London, August 9. Tho Coal Controller has finally refused the Yorkshire miners' demands. There are indications that the strikers' funds will be exhausted in the next fortnight. It is stated in responsible circles that the collapse of the police striko and the complete failure of tho unauthorised action of tho raiiwayinen havo greatly strengthened the hands of tho constitutional sido of tils' Labour movement.
In connection with tho Triple Labour Alliance ballot, tho Lancashire Minors' Conference has recommended the men to vote against direct action, but urged tho Miners' Federation to convene a conference in support of an.increase of 11.2 per cent, in tho pieco rates.—Aus.N.Z.
