RUGBY FOOTBALL

THIS AFTERNOON'S ATTRACTIONS. This afternoon patrons of tho Rugby game.are promised an innovation which should bo appreciated—the Selwyn v. University senior match .will lie played as a, curtain-raiser to the eagerly-looked-, for Poneke-Petone contest at 3 p.m. on tho representative field, north and south. A great afternoon's Rugby is looked for. Petono will leave nothing to chance, aa unless thoy win to-day Athletic will start tho third round with a, commanding lead; and somo idea, of tho strength of tho suburban fifteon may be gauged from tho fact that H, E. Nicholls (last year's representative skipper) has been dropped by tho Petone selectors. The PonekcPotono match is always tho favourite of the year, each 6ido having a very largo following. \ Tho l/nivorsity-Solwyn match is expected to bo one of tho fastest of tho season, as tho result will docide which team will play with Athletic, Petone, and Poneko in the third round of tho eenior ohampionship. University will no doubt benefit by their mid-week game at Chnstchnrck with Canterbury College, while Selwyn wo admittedly tho best trained fifteon in Wellington. The last irjcetiiig of the, teams produced a 0-point draw. AMENDED FIXTURES. Owing to tho wet state of tho grounds tho Oriental-Wellington third-class majch has been transferred from Newtown Park at 3 p.m. to Lyall Bay No. 3. Tho college matches set down for tho AVellington College ground will not bo played ;—Fourth v. Mariet Old Boys, Sixth v. Technical High School, and v. Poneke. Players in the early matches at Duppa Street are advised to watch tho ]wstponement board, as it is doubtful it these matches can bo played.
