FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luko), Councillors A. It. Atkinson, C. B. Norwood, W. H. Bennett, T, Forsyth, M. I''. Luckie, J. 0. Shorland, J. M. Dale, J. Hutchison,. J." Glover, C. H. Chapman, P. Eraser, W. J. Thompson, and I?. A. AVright were present at last evening's meeting of the City Council. Finance Matters; On tho recommendation of the Finance Committee, it was decided: (1) That a 6tormwater drain.be laid in Little George Street, the estimated cost of tho work being; JCGB; (2) that a subscription of .£2 2s. bo mads to the Manganao Hydro-. Electric Power League; (3) that the use of the Town Hall, subject to the lighting and cleaning charge, be granted to the Y.W.C.A. on the occasion of the entertainment in aid of their building fund ; (i) that in. order that better provision may be made for the compilation of the municipal electors' roll, steps be taken to appoint an additional' officer to Assist in this work; (5) that accounts Amounting to ;£5931 12s. 7d., as per sched. Tile attached, be passed for payment. An Onslow Want. The Ontlying Districts Committee reported to the council that a deputation representing the Onslow Progressive Society waited on the committee with reference to tho level crossings at ,Khandallah and Ngaio railway .stations, and asked tho committee to recommend tho council to bring pressure to jjenr upon the Government for the construction of underground sub-ways at. these crossings, Th« committee informed tho deputation that they would do all in their power to help them in tho matter. The report was received.
Improving tha Tqwn Belt, On the recommendation of the Reserves Committee it was decided:— "That the Mitchelltown School Committee bo informed in reply to their request for improvements to the Town Belt in tho vicinity of tho school, that provided they will agree to form the zigzag path and effectually carry off thn etormwatcr, the council will be" prepared to grub the gorso and carry out the necessary planting work." The Housing Question. On the motion of Councillor Fraser iv was decided that a resume of what the City Council had dono in regard to tho housing problem should bo forwarded .to tho Labour Representation Committee (which had forwarded n resolution bearing upon the houso famine ill 'Wellington).
