BURGLARIES IN AUCKLAND
SENSATIONAL ARREST OF TWO BOYS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, August 7. The sensational arrest of two boys aged 16, named Robert Thomas Cook- and James Montrose Sutherland, after a chase by the police, in Newton last Saturday night, had its sequel in the Police Court txHiay, when the boys appeared before Mr. E. Wilson, S.M. The following joint charges were laid: (1) That on Thursday night last they, attempted to break and enter tho warehouse of Bendells, Ltd.; (2) that on Saturday they did* Wreak, and enter the samo warehouse with intent to commit a crime; (3) that on or about July 19 they wilfully damaged a window valued at 25., tho property of tho Colonial Ammunition Company, and (4) that on or about tho same date they broke and entered this Colonial Ammunition Company's shop in Enfield Street, Mount Eden, and stole two antomatio pistols, valued at -£10 10s. Cook was charged separately witli being a and vagabond, in that ho was armed with a loadod revolver, with felonious intent. This charge -was later withdrawn.
Constable Castle, of tho Newton police, gave evidence that he arrested 1 Cook at 9.15 p.m. on Saturday and apprehended Sutherland at 3 o'clock noxt morning. Cook when arrested Lad a revolver in hia possession. Both-boys admitted that on the night of July 19 they had broken into the Colonial Ammunition Company's shop, smashing a window with a piece of piping, and stealing an automatic revolver. The boys pleaded guilty to each charge and were oommitted to the Supreme Court £or sentenco. Bail was fixed at J6IOO in each case.
