Renter's special correspondent at RoasioG. on the Don, cabling on 'July 31, states that the horrors perpetrated at Kharkoif by 'lie Chresvychaika, or Bolshevik extraordinary commission, are irrefutable. After the occupation of thfl city bv Deniken's troops, .hundreds of victims of Bolshevik' cruelty-were-disin-terred in the presence of medical/authorities, representatives of trades unions, and responsible foreigners, and photographs were taken. Some of the devices iot torturing the victims were of.fiendish'ingenuity. One callcd-"glove-inaking" was utilised to strip the skin from the hands of living victims. Several pairs of theso "gloves" were found and photographed, Every conceivable form of mutilation was perpetrated in the Chresvychaika slaugh-ter-house. Hands, feet, and breasts were cut off, jaws smashed, eyes gouged out, and victims disembowelled or tortured bv having boiling water- poured ovei' -them. Many were thrown alive into ells and mine-shafts. Other- were heap' fid in huge holes in tho ground. In underground galleries several layers of corpses were discovered. The Commissaries nightly mado merry while the Bolshevik Chinese and other ghouls revelled in a more ghastly maimer. Arrests were Hjudo on farcical charges. Some people were arrested and shot for possessing verses satirising tho Bolshevists. Among favourite questions of the inquisitors was "Have you ever abused Trotsky us a Jew?" The repressions and atrocities were redoubled after the visits of 'i'rotskv. Tha inhabitants of Kharkofi deliriously welcomed the Cossacks. Practically all tho workmen are now bitter against the Bolshevists, as well as the peasants in the surrounding country. The workmen have latterly been openly deriding the Bolshevik posters as circulating ridiculous lies.—Router. THE FIGHTJFOR ONEGA (Rec. August 7, 9.30 p.m.) London, August 5. A Bolshevik wireless message states:— After sixteen hours' fierce fighting in the streets of Onega the Allied troop's reembarked under a hurricane of fire from the ships, which then moved northwards.
