LAW FOR THE POOR
I PROCEDURE SIMPLIFIED. Tho procedure provided by tho rules i and regulations relating to iwor persons taking proceedings in tho Australian Supreme Court simplifies 111? steps which' were formerly required before a person could proceed in forma pauperis (states the Sydney "Daily Telegraph'-'). The main drawback to the old rules was till at counsel's opinion had to bo obtained before anyone could apply for an order allowing him fo proceed in thnt way. and the' applicant had to furnish o'i?e on which counsel could advise. TJudcr tho present prorednrt it is onlv necessary that the "applicant should fill in a form showing liliat ho or sin*, wisho* to take or defend proceeding* a? a poor !>erso>!. Position and means must also be shown. Aoplicn+ions aro referred to an officer appointed by'f Oovevmnnnt who infinites into the fuels of the case, aud reports to tho Court whether or not on applicant has any reasonable rroiyds for taking or defending proceedings. On J that report a .Tudce may either allow or | refuse an application.
