THE WEATHER
FORECAST AND SUMMARY AT 4 P.M. YESTERDAY. Present indications are for high but defrreasinK southerly winds, changing to increasing "westerlies and northerlies shortly in and southward of Cools Strait. Weather cold and changeable eenerally, with further showery along the East Const, but a temporary improvement is Iflcely soon, followed hy unsettled weather in the western districts. Barometer rising in the north, but falling soon in the south. The weather has been very cold everywhore, and heavy showers liavo fallen 111 tho East Coast districts, and about Cook Strait, but clear skieß have generally ruled along tho West Coast. boulh-ea«t and south winds have prevailed, strong and squally in many parts.
