Acceptances for tho minor events on tlio first day of tho Grand National Meeting, and final payments lor the Grand National Steeplechase, Winter Cup, and Grand National Hurdles must be made to-morrow. K, J. Mason has 'left for Sydney with Gloaming, Karo, Afterglow, and Rossini. All aro in forward condition. Tho sale is reported of Master Mmitoa. Tho Foxton-bred gelding has a promising career as a hurdlo performer. Jockeys A. Reed, W. Hell, and R. Reed left last night for Lyttelton. Tney have riding engagements at tho O.'J.C. ii;ootiiig next week. A. Oliver and S. Reid are going south to-morrow. So far neither of the pair has got a mount in tho Winter Cup. Mr. F. S. Kaston, owner of J. 1 aster St rowan nnd Gang 'Awa, has giiiio south to witness the'winding-up gallops of the pair. Mr. 11. Neagle, owner of Bnn Rove, was a passenger for the south by the Maori which sailed last evening. Entries for the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club Meeting close to-night; Tho opinion is growing that Master Strowan will again give a good actount of himself in his third Grand National. Daily tho admirers of tho Strowan gelding are gaining in number, and the little fellow is getting through his tasks at Ricearton in a very pleasing manner. Should tho going bo en. tho heavy side on Tuesday next it will be all in iavour of tho 1917 winner. R. Reod will ride Sir Ralph in the. Winter' Cup. Mr. R. Acton-Adams passed through Wellington early this week. Ho has gono on a business trip to Auckland, end will not bo present to soo Lochella race at Riccarton. Two life members, wero elected to the Fcilding Joekov Club last week—Messrs. E. Smith and H. F. AVorsfold. Mr. Smith had been a member of the club for 29 years and of the committee for 13 years. Mr. Worsfold had been a member of the club for 21 years and of the committee for 12 years. Chatting with a Press roprcsontativo in Auckland, Mr. W. G. Stead said he did not anticipate any quarantine troubles with his team in Sydney. He has recently purchased a half interest iu Spanner from. Mr. W. Rowi Polo easily. accounted for Sir Agnes at tho business end of six furlongs, run in lmin. 25sec.
Gloaming, alone, moved very attractively over six furlongs, run in lmin. 2(Bcc. Ron Revo did a useful v/orking gnllop over two circuits, running home the last 6even furlongs in lmin. 39scc. Sleight-of-Hand (Tutchcn) and Reformation (lionc'h) gave a satisfactory exhibition over two hurdles, both jumping very fast. They wore afterwards given a couple of rounds on tho tan at a good half pace. Potentiality'had almost a length tho best of Elocution at the closo of seven furlongs, run in lmin. 3G3ec, with'the latter on tho outside.
Waimai and Signature, separately, did useful working gallops, both moving freely ami well.
"Tip Up (Hagerty), Wild Pilgrim (Jl'Chesney), and Achilledes (K. Manson) wero associated in a round of the hurdles. Tho txio fenced beautifully till the last obstacle, where Achilledes hit hard and camo down. Malison was only shaken.
Cynic and Minister, tho latter just getting over a doso of physic, got to the end of six furlongs in limn. 23 45sec. They finished on terms, though Cjnio had his companion's measure. Gamecock, with Porter up and fr<rm a fair standing start, skipped over si:: furlongs very well in lmin. JK'.cc, doing it pleasingly. Red Koa- (Hega.rty), Dardanelles (M'Chesuey), Coalition ' (M'Swecney), Lochella (Roach), and Master Lupin (A. M'DonaM) commanded nil attention when they lined up for a round of tho big fonces. The quintet jumped beautifully till they readied the last obstacle, which Dardanelles struck and got rid of his rider. Red Koa led throughout. Gaziquo (Robinson), Gold Kip (light boy), All Over (B. Morris), Parisian Diamond (W. lurk), and Sir Ralph (G. Young) wero associated m a very interesting gallop over six furlongs. The start was a fair one, but over tho concluding stages the riders of Gaziquo and Gold Kip wero having a task to keep their mounts level with All Over. Parisian Diamond, who pulled off a shoe, was four lengths away and Sir Ralph six lengths further back. The time was lmin. 20 2-ssec. Coalition and Master Lupin, who is apparently quito sound again, after going over tho country, ran nine furlongs in 2min 13 2-Dsec. Master Strowan covered two rounds of tho sand at a good working paw. Gay Lad was in his element in skipping over five furlongs in lmin. Bscc, doing it nicely. Art (S. Walls), Multivo (R, Hanson), and Paraoa wero given a round over the hurtles. The first-named two fenced well and finished half a. dozen lengllis in froiit of Paraoa. Art afterwards ran a mile in 2miu. Iseo. Kilboyno (G. Young) pleased by tho way ho loft six furlongs behind in lmin. 21 1-ssec, finishing very well. Manawapango had tho bolter of Merry Lad after traversing a milo in lmin 51scc. . , , Vascular and Rod Book sprinted four furlongs in 55 2-ssec, finishing on terms. Cerberus, alone, dashed over six furlongs in lmin. 22 2-ssec. He covered a lot of ground, but did not ploaso by the way ho ended up his task. , Morecambo (F. Flynn) arfd Lawsuit (Hega.rty) wero companions mi a round over the big fences, both doing their tasks well. A Press Association message from by<lmev states thnt Spanner has been scratched" for tho Epsom Handicap.
