LABOUR CHARTER OF PEACE TREATY
• CRITICISM AT AMSTERDAM (By TelegraDh--Pres6 •Association--Oopyrisrlit Amsterdam, August I■The committee of the Trade Union Congress lias reported that it is unable to accept the Labour Charter in the Peace Treaty as a full expression of the demands of 'the working 'classes. Mr. Samuel Gompers, president of the American Federation of Labour, declared that he would strive for an improvement of the charter. He demanded that Labour should not be regarded as an article of commerce, and urged the equality of women and men. The German delegates urged the application of the programme of"the"Berne International Conference, including the regulation of women's labour, and shorter hours. A French representative supported this, and declared that the workers must complete the Labour Charter—Heuter.
