AN APPLICATION FOE REMOVAL. By Telegraph—"Press, Association. Uunetfin, August' 6. An application ' by' Reginald Charles Read, farmer, of Whenuakoa, to havo his name removed from the Military Defaulters' List, was heard by Mr. Widdowson, S.M., to-day. Counsel said that when Read was called up for military service ho appealed. The appeal was dismissed by the Military Service Board, and the applicant then wrote to the Minister of Defence, lodging an appeal to be heard before the Final Court of Appeal. Read ignored three notices to parade for mediial examination, aa ho understood that his" appeal was pending. He was then brought before a courtmartial and sentenced to 130 days' detention. . ■•* The Defenco Department's representative, Captain Dyer, said that he had been instructed not to oppose the application, which was granted.
