Mr. W. Eobertson, who has occupied the position of senior cleric in the Auckland offico of the Lands and Survey Department of the last two and. a half years, awl ivlio has been appointed insnector in the Department with headquarters at Wellington, was presented with a. travelling-bag by his fellow-offi-cers in the Auckland Lands Office. The presentation was made by the commissioner. Mr. H. M.. Skeet, on behalf of tho staff.. Mr. Koborlson intends leaving for "Wellington early this week.
Newe has been received in. Christchurch of the death in America as the result of ft railway accident of Sergeant William Hector M'Lean, assistant director of the 324 th Field Artillery Band, U.S.A. Army. Deceased was tho only son .of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. M'Lean, King Street, Sydenham (Christchurch). Ho was educated at the Sydenham School and learned his trade at the. Addington Workshops. While in Christohiirch the late soldier took a great interest in music and was a member of l.ho Garrison Band and of his father's band. Deciding to take up music as a profession ho went to London and then to America where he played in several bunds. When America entered tho war ho was a member of the orchestra at Koith'e Theatre, Columbus, Ohio. Three daye after his return from service with the Artillery Band in France he met with tho accident which resulted in his death. Sergeant Sl'Lean's wife also served in France, being a nurse of the American Eed Cross.
Captain Ronald Fulton, R.A.M.C, of Dunedin, who has been serving as regimental medical officer in the Imperial Army in French and Belgian Flanders since June, 1915. is returning to New Zealand bv the Friedrichsruhe next month, Cl&ntain Fulton, Iwho is tho eldest eon of' Dr. E. V. Fulton, of Dunedin. was awarded tho New Zealand University's travelling medical scholarship in 191*4, and after a. few weeks' furlough in New Zealand will return to London to resume his studies. . t Mr. J. Weaver, who has been on the staff of the Wellington Gas Company, Miramar, for the last four years, and who is onterinjr business on his own behalf, was farewolled by his fellow employees on Saturday, and was tho recipient of a presentation. Mr. Eamsden, foreman, made the presentation, and spoke of the high esteem in which Mr. Weaver was held. It was with regret that they were losing such a trusted employee, and best wishes were extended for" his futirre success.
