NAVY LEAGUE
The monthly meeting of the Navy League was held yesterday afternoon. There were present Colonel Campbell (in tho dhair), Mrs. Gibbons, Mrs. Darling, Mrs. Richardson, Miss Laurenson, Cc'ionol Roberts, Captain Chudley, and Messrs. Keesing, Wireii, C. E. Smith, Shallcrass, and Mr. It. Darrooh (hon. secretary). A letter was received from the Ciiristchurch branch intimating lhat ;i conference of the different branches of tho league would be held in Wellington on August 19. Mrs. Hall-Thompson wrote expressing her appreciation of the farewell party ami presentation to her on Friday last. Mr. Keesing reported on behalf of the Education Committee that successful meetings had been held at Mt. Cook Boys' and St. Mark's. Schools by Mr. C. K. Smith and tho Kev. Uoberteon Orr, and also at Tlio Terrace and the Normal Schools by Colonel Campbell. Under the auspices of the league an interesting and instructive lecture on the Navy and , the war was given at Wellington College on July 2G. Mr. Keesing also reported that school enrolments have now reached 3100. To all schools with 100 members a New Zealand ensign had been presented. Mrs. Darling reported on behalf of the ladies' auxiliary that a successful evening had been held in honour of Mrs. Hall-Thompson, late president of the Ladies' Auxiliary. Much of the success of the gathering was. due to the help and presence of a large number of members of the recently-formed girls' branch. The ladies expressed their thanks to the Bristol Piano Company, Seoullar and Co., and the D.I.C. On behalf of the Navy League'l.ing George's Fund it was decided to remit jeis(Jo to the King George's Fund for Sailors, London.
