Another effort to bring about, a «atis- '. factory settlement of the shea/ers' dispute is being made by the llawke's Bay Sheep Ownors' Union, which has cited the Wellington Shearers' Industrial "Union of Workers for.a new award. The hearing of the disputo is set down to lake place at the Conciliation Council ■on September i. A brief summary of the suggestions made by the applicants, ;vho have recommended Messrs 11. jJlorison (Greytown), A. D. M'Leod (Martinborough), and Henry Gascoyne (Maraekakaho, Hawke's Bay) as assessors, is as follows :— Kates of Pay—Shearers: Not kss than : '£l ss. per hundred, with rations; in addition a war bonus of ss. per hundred. In cases where shearers find themselves in ■ rations this rate shall bo incrensed by. is. por hundred. Tho rate for stud sheep shall bo settled by agreement between tho employer and the shearer, and the rate for hogget ram's shall.be time and a half, and for other rams double ordinary rates. Other workers:'' Pressers and wool-rollers (when engaged. by tho week), £& 7s. Gd. per week; all other shed hands (when . engaged by the week), .£2 ss. per week;, cooks, .£3 Ssi per week; cooks' assistants,- £2 ss. per week. All weckly-wago' hands shall receive an additional 10s. per week war bonus. When not employed,by the week pressers and wool-rollers shall bo paid Is. sd..per hour, and. other shed hands Is. 4(1. per hour,, with, an additional 3d. per hour war bonus. Hours of Work—Tho hours of shearing shall be from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., or from 5.30 a.m. to .5.30 p.m., with intervals for meals and smoking. Shearing 'Fhall.stop at i p.m. on Saturdays, except in tho case when 48 hours and 20 minutes work shall have been done. Provision is made that "each shearer shall shear .with all reasonable dispatch the sheep the employer or his agent requires him to shear, and in good time and in a workmanlike manner, to the satisfaction.'of his employer or agent. The number to 1m shorn shall be agreed ■upon approximately between tho employer or his agent and the shearers before the commencement of the shearing."
