Anderson) transferred from the hospital ship Marama, on which he served during tho major part of that vessel's war commission as second engineer. ■ The eecond . engineer (Mr. M'lnncs) was second on the ill-futed Waiheino when'she'was 'sunk by enemy submarine action in the Mediterranean. Tho third engineer (Mr. C. Ferguson) transferred from the Maraniti, and the fourth (Mf Jeromson) transferred from tho Jlaunganiti, 'on which ho Berved during that vessel's troopship commission. MOANA FROM'SAN FRANCISCO. • Shortly after noon on Saturday tno R.M.S. Moana arrived in tho stream from Sair Francisco, and berthed at the Queen's . Wharf at 3 p.m. The vessel experienced Uno weather, throughout tho forage with the exception that when Hearing New Zealand adverse conditions were experienced. Sho brings a large general cargo, inclu'din" a quantity of oranges and other fruit. The vessel .is duo to sail ou the return trip on Friday. '",-., EELFORT TO BRING NEW YORK CARGO. Tho local agents for the Luckcnbach Line (Messrs;- Johnston and Co.) announced «n Saturdav that tho United Slates Shipping Board has allotted the steamer Beltort to the company to load at- New York for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, and Sydney. She is expected to leave New York about the middlo of this month. After completing discharge at the abovementioned ports it iB probable, that tho Belfast will load m New Zealand for the American port. WAIPARA LEAVES MONTREAL. . Private advico has been received in Auckland announcing the departure of tho Waipara. from Montreal on July 25. She is bringing a general cargo to. the Now Zealand. Shipping. Company, and is due at Auckland about September 2. WANAKA WITH COAL. ' The local office of the Union Steam Ship Company announced on Saturday that their steamer Wanaka left Newcastle on Friday morning last for Wellington with a cargo of coal. . Sho should show up about Thursday. TAHITI FOR VANCOUVER, \ An arrival in port yesterday was tho Union Company's liner Tahiti, which is to'take her departure for Vancouver, via Honolulu', on Wednesday next. RIPPLE FOR EAST COAST. The Riople, which is to sail for Napier on Tuesday evening, will take cargo for that port only, and the local agents advise that such cargo will only bo received on tho day of sailing. No cargo will bo received on Monday. NO PICTON.CARGO. Tho TJnion Company advised last evening that the Mapourika. sailing at noon to-day for Picton and Nelson, would tako no cargo for the former port, "THE WESTMORELAND. : Tho work of repairing the damaged steamer Westmoreland in tho dry dock Ht Port Chalmers is now in full swing. The first of tho damaged plates was removed from her hull on Wednesday morn'ing, .'and as tho work proceeds additional gangs'of men will be employed. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. W. G. Tho Antiooc, which is bound from Auckland to Wellington with cargo from Ran Francisco, was then buttling agaiußt heavy head winds. Tho Antiopo left Auckland on July 22. Tho TaluMO was expected to lcavo Suva on Saturday with a full cargo of fruit and other Island produce for Auckland. Slio is duo thero on Wednesday. Fine weather was met with untij nearing the New Zealand coast, when sho encountered a south-east gale, and put into Russell for shelter on July 26. She left again on July 28, but bad weather again necessitated her takine shelter, and slio anchored at Marsden Point umtil tho weather moderated, and she then came on to Auckland. Sho brought four white and.two native passongerß from Nluo. Her cargo consists of 46 oases of hats and 75 tons of copra.
