RONGOTEA DAIRY COMPANY BUTTER PRICES, COOL STORAGE, ADD DRIED MILK. (By'Telegraph.-Special Correspondent.) Palmerston North, August 3. A-special meeting of tho Rongotea Cooperative Dairy Company was held at the week-end to consider the following questions :—(1) Equalisation in the prico- paid for butter for local consumption, and that for export; (2) the advisability of joining the company now being formed to provide cool storage for milk products in "Wellington; (3) the prospects of the milk powder industry. Mr. W. Darragh, chairman of directors, pointed out in connection with tho question of equalisation that tho price ■paid for butter for local consumption was 2id. less than that paid for export. As this was done to keep down the cost of living in the Dominion, it was only just that the deficiency between the two sales should be made up to the dairying mdusDominion. A petition .to the Governtrv out of tho Consolidated Fund of the ment on the foregoing lines was laid before the meeting, and signed by all preFent. ',''; Mr. H. H. Hunt read a ciroular from tho National Dairy Association stating that a company was being formed conHsting of tho soveral dairy companies operating in the Wellington province with the object of taking over the Wellington Meat Export Company's lease of buildings and plant in Wellington, now .used for freezing all butter for the province, these premises being under offer to the association. It was stated, that the new company was to bo self-support-ing, as the profit from, storage_ would cover the necessary outlay, obviating tho necessity of making calls to procure capital. - It was unanimously . resolved _to support the National Dairy Association iii the formation of a cold storage company- ' , ~, Considerable discussion ensued with regard to dried milk but as no reliable rlata was forthcoming no action was taken. The chnvrman explained that hydro-electricity would bo a great help to this industry. It had been shown that the required heat for its manufacture could be satisfactorily maintained by hydro-electricity, thus saving greatly in coal consumption. Mr. R. M. Mattheson gave a Tesume of n-'visit to.thc Waikato, where the induswas flourishing under - farmers' cooperative control.
