ILLICIT TRAWLING
ORDER FOR FORFEITURE OF TRAWLER AND GEAR. By Telegrauh-l'rebs AMociation. Auckland, August 1. "A charge of illicit trawling in Jlauraki Gulf last month, was admitted by John Gallagher, master of the trawler Phantom, Wore Air. Wilson, S.M., to-day. Mr. Sehvyn Mays, lor the Fisheries Department" slated that defendant was fairly canght when ho was trawling off Noisy Islands and six miles inside the prohibited area in broad daylight. At the time of this offence one of the owners was aboard. The master and owner had been caught poaching in the same snip m May this year. The only thing to be.said in their favour was that the i.oat was a small one, and' defendants were trawling only iu a small way. Though the line for the offence was limited to .£2O application was made for an order of forleitiire of Hie ship and gear, when the owners ivoiild have to treat villi Ihe Minister of Customs for redemption. Defendant was fined .CS and 28s. costs, and an order was made for t'ofi'elcure of the ship and gear.
