ARBITRATION COURT
KLECTEIC LINESMEN'S DISPUTE SETTLED.
Tha Arbitration Court concluded its sittings in Wellington yesterday. His Honour Mr. Justice Striiißer presided, ana with him wore Messrs. W. Scott (employers' representative) and J. 'M tmllouuh (workers' representative). When the case of the Wellington electric linesmen (employed by the- City Corporation) was called, Mr. W. A. Orenfell announced that a settlement had been reached. The linesmen and emergency linesmen, who were receiving Is. 6d. por hour and a war bonus of 10 per cent., are now to "receive Is. 7Jd. per hour, and i bonus of 2Jd„ and assistant linesmen, who were receiving Is. -Id. per hour with a war bonus of 10 per cent., are now to get Is. sld.and a bonus of 2d. Ihe men. asked for Is. lOd. and Is. Bd. per hour flat rates respectively. SHOP ASSISTANTS' DISPUTE. The hearing of the shop assistants' dispute was concluded yesterday, Evidence was called by Mr. W. A.,Orenfell, on behalf of tho employers, in icfutntion of the statements made by tho witnesses called on behalf of the union. It was stated by ouo witness that ho doubted very much whether tho majority of the assistants employed by booksellers were in the union,,also as to whether those assistants were in favour of the dispute being; opened. Mr. A. L. Moiiteith undertook on Tiehalf of the union to provide tho Court with tho names of the booksellers' assistants in the union and their place of occupation. ' . Evidence was also Riven on hen alt ot Hie noft goods, fancy xoods, hardware, and boot trades, and at the conclusion tho Court decided to consider its.judgment and adjourned.
