WEATHER FOR FARMERS
"We receive a daily weather map and forecast from the AVeather Bureau," writes a New Zealandcr at present settfed in Washington. "I think if it were properly eiigiueered in New Zealand the Weather Bureau there could take a more important position. The Department, I know, is not well provided with cash by the Dominion Government. The agitation for Improvement should come from the agriculturists and pastqralists, through their representatives in Parliament. "Here in tho United States tho farmers and cattle-raisers find it a payable proposition: to support the Weather Bureau, which saves them millions of dollars by sending special forecasts to certain localities about frosts and the like. The Meteorological Department in-Wel-lington has done that tiTsome extent. It lias cautioned grape growers in Hawke'a Bay of approaching frosty nights. Here tho bureau is a part of the Department of Agrioulture. The New Zealand Bureau does not occupy that position." ' .
