FETONE WAR MEMORIAL

MEETING OP COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Petone War Memorial Committee was held last evening. Tlie Mayor of Petone (Mr. J. W. MTiwan) presided over a good attendance of members. Tho secretary (Mr. C. N. Haslam) reported that the following donations had been made-.—Gear Meat Co., Jt2oO; Oppenlieinicr and Co., £'&; Peace IJay collections, £Vl Bs. Sd.; D. M'Kenzie, £1; Steiumuller, 10=. Also additional pruniises to tlie extent of ,£23 hail been made. It was decided, to call a meeting of all those willing to assist in tho collecting campaign for' Thursday night next to make arrangements for carrying out a thorough canvass of the town and district. Mr. Bedingfield was appointed as assistant to the secretary, aud Mr. London was appointed as treasurer. Mr. Churchouse iisked if any decision had been rtnchei! as to what form the proposed memorial was to take. He thought that many people would fail to subscribe to an indefinite object. The chairman, in reply, stated that it. had been previously agreed upou to hold over the decision as to what form the memorial would take until tho collection had been completed. It was resolved that printed cards calling attention to the collection be placed in various shop windows in the town.
