PERMITS TO TRAVEL
OT 'RAILWAY REGULATIONS,
New railway by-laws to. enable the Department to restrict passenger travel on trains at present are gazetted, following bxl the now by-laws:-(1) No person shall travel or attempt to travel on a railway without haying previously obtained a permit in writing so to do from a railway officer. ■■ , Such a permit will bo granted only m respect of a specified journey, and will be granted only on ite being established to the satisfaction of the railway, officer that such journey is reasonably necessary, aud that it is not merely or principally for pleasure or any other nonessential purpose. No person shall purchase or attempi to purchase a railway ticket for anv journey unless and until a permit for that journey hai boen duly obtained. j Every person who has obtained a permit for any journey as aforesaid shall carry the permit with him on that journey, and shall show and deliver up tho same whenever required so to do by any railway officer for any purpose wnateoeVTliis by-law shall not apply to perrons making a journey for which tickets at suburban fares in accordance with, regulation (51) Part (1) of the railway tariff gazetted on the 17th day oi December, 1912, are ieeuable. This by-law shall not apply to a person travelling- on a railway under the authority of n- season ticket or tree pass, or in pursuance of a contract entereci into before the coming into operation oi this by-law entitling him to travel on that railway. (') No person shall obtain or attempt to obtain any such permit as aforesaid by knowingly making any false lepresentntion to any railway officer, and no person shall transfer or attempt to tninster anv such permit, and no person shall use or "attempt to use any such permit which hos been issued to or in the name of any other person, and no person shall uso or attempt to use any such permit for any other journey or on any other (lay or days than that or those in respect ot which the same was ipsned. (3) \ny person who commits a breach '.of the foregoing by-laws shall be liable to a- flue not exceeding £W.
