" The greater portion of the surface workings at the South Mine at.Broken Hill have been destroyed, and it is estimated that the damage amounts' to .£500,000. It will be eighteen, months or two years before operations can lie resumed, and a thousand miners will be idle for that period. It is suspecled that the fire, was caused by the 1.W.W., as it broke, out in four places at once, and the telephones had been tampered with. The firemen received the alarm through the mine whistles.—Press Assn.
