COMMERCE
' HIGH PRICES AND THE COMMUNITY (By Telegraph-Press Associalion-Cop.vrißht Sydney, July 31. Mr. Masscy Greene, Federal Minister of Trade and Customs, speaking at the annual dinner of the Chamber of Commerce in reference to ■ tho strike, said the Government was determined to see the law observed. He warned the members of the chamber against the prevailing unrest which was caused by high prices, and appealed to them to tackle the problem troui the community's standpoint, and thereby check the public outcry for Governmental interference. There were great forces at work, said the speaker, which would sweep away all Uovernmems il'. tliey were reinforced by tho vast moderate element that was looking for some relief. He concluded that he believed the leaders of commerce were able to do more to settle the unrest than all the Governments in Australia combined. The chairman said that) the 'value of tho exports between J9U and 1919 amounted to' 330 millions, purchases by Britain accounting for 220 millions.— Press Assn.
