THE EUPLEOTELA. An interestini; feature in connection with tho Britisli Oil Company's steamer Euplectela. now on her way from Auckland to Wellington, is that,., in common witn others of the same line, she is named after a shell. Tho practice of so naming the vessels was adopted by tho founder of tho Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Company, who was a dealer in sheila in Jjundon. In the saloon, of each steamer is a glass caso containing a shell of thr, species aftor which she is jiamed. The Euplectela derivos her name from a rare shell found off tho coast of Japan. This shell, which ia also called 'Yeuus's Flower Basnet." Is found in very deep water, and, as far as is known, there are only four or live perfect specimens in existence. Tho one ou the steamer is worth over £200. Owing to its web-like coral forinatiou, it is very fragile
PATEENA'S RUNNING ALTERED. Alterations iuivo been made in tho Patecna'sii'unuiug to Onehunga and vice versa. The vessel is now to leave Wellington on Tuesdays and Fridays (instead of Mondays and Thursday"), and will leave Onehunga on the return trip on Wednesdays and Saturdays, as against Tuesdays and Saturdays, as before.
MAPOURIKA FOR PIOTON ONLY. , Consequent upon having been delayed in her arrival at Wellington the ilapourika did not leave port yesterday for Pict.on and Nelson- Tlw vessel is now lo .sail at for Pieton only, returning to-night. To-morrow she will pick up her usual running, leaving at noon for Piotou and Nelson.
MOKOIA'S ITINERARY. According to a Press Association mesengo the jllokoia was able to berth at Napier yesterday morning, .-md she was to have sailed for Gisbome and Auckland last evening. The message, also adds that tho weather was still very rough. When the Mokoia next leaves Auckland for the south she will omit the call at Gisborne, caling at. Napier and Wellington. From Wellington the vessel will be dispatched for Dunedin direct, omitting Lyttelton.
AVAR. COURAGE Al HULL/. Advico has been received by the Commonwealth and Dominion Line of the arrival of the War Courage at Hull. on July 23. The vessol cleared Auckland on May 23. '

The Rosamond is to leave to-morrow for Dunedin direct, taking cargo. .With a General cargo tlie Stella, arrived from Dunediu yesterday. She is to load scrap iron and general cargo at Wellington for Dunedin, sailing to-morrow. The Calm is due from Lyttelton to-day, and it is hoped to be 'iilile to dispatch her for Wanganui this evening. The Breeze, which arrived yesterday, is to be dispatched for Lyttelton and Dunediu this evening. The Kani is to leave Wellington this morning for Tarakoho lo load cement for Lyttelton. The Wuveriey is to come oft the sliti to-day, and to-morrow she wilt sail for Palea. The Ngatoro is due to arrive at Wellington on Sunday from Whaugarei, and alio iB to sail lor New Plymouth ou Monday evening. The Ngahero arrived in port yesterday morning to coal tho Ohupna. Tho auxiliary schooner May Howard, which has been laid up at Auckland for somo time, iB to bo put into commission again. She is to be overhauled\at Auckland, and then go to Wellington to bo put in the Karamea-Welliugton timber trade. The Scales ketch lUra, en route from Nine Island lo Auckland, arrived at Russell at noon on Saturday last. She was eleven days out from Nine Island, all well, and put into l!u«seU lor shelter. The Port Napier,. which arrived at Napier last Monday, brought about 3500 tons of coal. On July 20 the Shaw-Savill liner Mamari left Colon for Auckland, where she is duo on August. 18. According to a wireless message from the Port Nlcholßon she expects to make Dort at Auckland on Sunday.
