Discussing the match for tho professional billiards championship of New Zealand, in which Stephenson defeated Crossan by 8000 to 5951, tho Auckland "Star" says: "Tho difference in the score does not correctly indicate the merits of tho players, as, although Stephenson has greater scoring ability than his opponent, the latter can eompilo a break as good if not better than Stephenson, and has shown a high knowledgo of the game. He had bad luck in the early stago of the game, and this spoiled his chance. Ho played nu uphill fight.with groat coolness, and perhaps had the game been longer ho would have given a better account of himself. He has delighted Auckland billiard enthusiasts with play that has not been seen hero for sonio years, and it is hoped- that ho will challenge tho holder of tho title. Ho has just been demobilised after serving a considerable timo overseas, and this, of ccuiw, would tend to spoil his touch."
