CITY COUNCIL'S HOUSING VENTURE
Sir,—Are we well represented in -the elected City Council?. This morning's news enlightens us. Some 125 acres have been purchased at Northland for dwellings, as noted. But this land wants roading, a water-pumping station, and sewage scheme at an approximate cost of ,£20,000; also electrio tram track. Most of Northland being hilly country,' this will add to cost in construction of houses. Bases on hillsides generally cost one-third of a house, a cost well represented in houses built at Kelburn South. Why has the modest plain of Miramar been overlooked, where streets arc formed, with tramways _ running through its centre and the main sewage connected? In fact, builders could go I ahead any day of the week with the work of house-building.' At present wo are facing other risky outlays, meaning I further burdens on ratepayers with Hti tie value in return.—l am, etc., I , LOOK AHEAD.
