MASTERTON HIGH SCHOOL
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Referring to "Urgent's"' letter. IVhat the Masterton people are waiting for is a report from the Minister for Education and a 6ta.torn.eiit of his intentions ..with regard to sites offered. While Ministers of the Crown have a right to be cautious and make fullest, investigation, yet there is such a thing as procrastination. Tlio Minister has surely had full time to weigh tho pros, and cons.—l am, etc., MASTERTON PARENT'. Masterton, July 28, 1919. | A copy of this letter was shown to the Director of Education (Dr. Anderson), who is dealing with tho matter under discussion, and Dr. Anderson made : tho following reply concerning it: ''Mr. Daniell hits offered to donate a very valuable piece of ground for the. purposes of. a technical high school site. .1 have not seen the ground but only a plan of it, and although the sito appears to be from its contiguity to tho centre of population and tho railway station a very suitable one, yet tho frontage to tho main road is only two chains. A proposal was mado from this offico in consequence that stops should be taken to secure a further equal area of adjoining land so as to make a really worthy sito for such an institution. The offer of this site, however, has led to other suggestions of other sites, which some'perl sons consider preferable or at all events j worthy of consideration beforo a Glial I decision is arrived at. I 'propose accordingly to take the first opportunity of going to Masterton personally, if possible in company with tile Superintendent 'of Technical Education, who has considerable skill in school-planning and ! architecture, to form a personal opinion ! as to the sito which ought to be selected. j Indeed, I promised that I would go lo Masterton immediately after my return from Dunedin a week ago, but other ur- | gent business has detained me here. It i lias been necessary also to dispatch the ! Superintendent of Technical Education to j Auckland ou other business.. I hope to visit Masterton 60on after, perhaps even before ho returns. I shall endeavour to • be in Masterton next week."]
