NEW RECREATION GROUND
ON GEAR ISLAND, LOWER HUTT,
On- Gear Island (Lower Hutt), at the extreme end of White's Line, is an area of four acres of flat land not inoluded in the farm property on the island. Its situation in regard to the Hutt and the seashore makes it an ideal silo for a recreation ground. The members of the Hutt River Board (in whom the island is vested) were'so impressed with its' .value in that direction that it was decided to offer the Hock to the lower Hutt Borough Council for the purposes of a recreation ground. At a conference of both bodies, held on Monday evening, the representatives of the River Board, who included the chairman (Mr. H. Baldwin), made'a formal offer of the block to the council at a poppercorn rental, viz., ,£7 10s. per annum. •■ The offer \ was considered a satisfactory one, and its acceptance only needs the ratification of the Lower Hutt Borough Council to give that body a- very fine recreation ground m.a desirable locality. ■
