FEATHERSTON MILITARY HOSPITAL
DEMAND FOR A ROYAL i COMMISSION. Br Teleerasli—Prcsn Association. Auckland, July 29. A reply to its demand that a Royal Commission should be appointed to investigate complaints regarding the treat input of tubercular patients in Featherston Military Hospital has been received by the Auckland branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association from Sir James Allen. The Minister states: "We have had the whole matter very.thoroughly investigated by tho Defence Department, and in view of the report received 1 am satisfied that there is no necessity for n Royal Commission." He adds that as soon as he receives a little further information which he has asked for a detailed statement will bo made. Referring to the letter, Mr. B. F. Andrews, secretary to the Auckland Association, said the association was by no means reassured by the Minister's statement, nnd in view of the nature of the report by its representatives it would still press for a full investigation of tho whole matter. He added that if tho Government had nothing to hide there was no reason why it should not nccede to the request.
