On her maiden trip. to New Zealand waters tho British Oil Company's steamer Euplectcla is at present at Auckland, to commence discharge of tho Auckland portion of her shipment of benziuo and benzoline. Tho F.uplccicla, which is built to carry bulk oil, has been trading about iite China coast. She loaded tho major portion of her present cargo at Pangkalan Su Su, in tho Dutch East Indies, and sailed from there 011 .May 31, completing her shipment at Sambo aud Singapore. -The latter port was left 011 June 17 for Auckland, via' Torres Straits. The Bona, a new vessel, which i 3 to supplement tho -Fiona in the transportasugar from Fiji in tho interests of the Colonial Sugar Company, arrived at Auckland last week from Montreal. The Eona was built at Middiesborough in 1918 by Sir 11, Dixon and Co., Ltd., but was commandeered by the Admiralty for urgent war service, and for twelve months v;as engaged in transport of foodstuffs from India and Java to London. This is her maiden trip to these waters, a genoraJ cargo having been loaded at Montreal in Juno. fJlie left that port on June 11, cleared the Panama on June M, and experienced a lair voyage throughout. Tho Komi is one of the most up-to-date-vessels of her class, and one of the largest engaged in tho Australian trade. Her dimensions are;— Length, "100 ft.; breadth, 54ft.; aud depth, 32ft. 2in. Sho is built on the cantilever system, with topside tanke; and her boilers are so arranged that she'can barn either coal or oil fuel. Lilje all vessels of her class her machinery 16' situated aft. Tho Eona has about 10C0 tons of cargo for discharge at Auckland, and is to sail to-day for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, afterwards going to Melbourne and Sydney. At tho beginning of last month a Press Association message from Loudon stated 1 that the Federal and Shire liner Ayrshire had left Liverpool on June 1 for New Zealand ports. The local agents of tho vessol (tho_ N.Z. and African Line) received no advice from their Home office 1 of the vessel's departure, but ut the time this nonnotification was thought to be caused by the delay in arriving of cablegrams—which delay was very considerable at that time. However, over eight weeks have elapsed since tho Press Association message was received, and still no oliicial cablegram to tho local agents of the vessel has arrived. Neither has any word been received of the vessel leaving tho Panama. As a consequence tho local agents have doubts as to whether the vessel has left- the Old Country at all. THE ORAM. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that the Orari is to come out of dock at Auckland to-day. Tho vessel i 6 to leave Auckland on August 3 for Gisborne, find will leave Gisbornc on August 11 for Wellington. She sails finally from Wellington on August 17. SUFFOLK OFF THE HEADS. Tho Suffolk, from Napier, was reported to bo ptT the Heads yesterday morning, but owing to Lho thick weather conditions the master did not attempt to bring tho vessel into port. Providing the weather clears sufficiently the vessel will make port this morning, and berth at the Glasgow Wharf to continue Homeward limding. Tho Suffolk is now to leavo ou Ifiday for Liverpool, via Panama. SOMERSET LEAVES COLON. Cable advice has been received by tho New Zealand and African Lino of tho departure' of the "Somerset from Colon oil Saturday last. The Opilii, owned by Messrs. Reese Bros., of Ohrlßtohurch, left Dunkirk last week for South Wales to load for a Near Eastern port, thcnco to New Zealand.

Many steamers, to be built by the Kawasaki Dock Company in Kobc ; are being named, after leading cities in Great Britain and America. This firm is now busily engaged in completing eleven ships, each having a capacity of 9CO tons d.w. Of these the Washington Maru, the Portland Iforu, the New York Maru, the San Francisco Maru, the Vancouver Maru, the Liverpool Maru, the Glasgow Maru, the Singapore Maru, the Chile Maru. tho Brazil Maru. and the Argentine Maru are hot; all practically ready for sea. These names i will bo remembered by people abroad more easily than names such as the Daisan Toriboshi Maru, the Daiju Tsurugisan Maru. or similar names of vessels of Japan. "Maru" means simply "the goo<l ship."
