The Yorkshire miners state that they will decide their own policy, irrespective oi' the Miners' Federation, and that the miners must 'reopen the r negotiations. Apart from piecework rates there are other disputes, including the question, of the continuous shift. These workers get rm reduction of hows under the Sankcy lfeport, but some relief or extra pay ; rnent must bs arranged. It is estimated that the coal mir-nrs have lost ,£1,070,000 in wages. Strike nay amounting to ,£70,000 was distributed on Saturday. Tlie Yorkshire Miners' Association has not yet considered the Government'': offer, but will probably meet to-day. Roberts, Foci Controller, speaking t at Darfield, said that owing to the adverse trade exchange with America, the housewife had to pay nearly threepence a pound extra for bacon.
