ENTERTAINMENTS

THE DANDIES. The bright entertainment provided each evening in the Concert Chamber of the Town llaii by the Dandies and the Kennedy Company is attracting appreciative audiences. The exquisito violin solos of Mr. Keith Kennedy are wnnnly welcomed, and without exception the other artists have becyme distinct favourites. The entertainments will bo repeated this evening, and a charge of, programme is promised (or tho middle of the week. ■ ORGAN RECITAL. There was only a poor attendance of the public at the organ recital given by Mr. Bernard Page (the City Organist) at the; Town Hall on Saturday This is the first recital given for some i little tiino past, but tho lapse of time between recitals does not seeiu to havo enhanced their value with the public. In Auckland Mr. Maughau Barnett is invariably assisted at h'is recitals by vocalists, and tlio result is that his audiences average between GOO and 700 a night, and even the great Edwin Lemare, who knew so well how to charmau audience, lliaa assisting artists at his recitals iu San Francisco. If such an emiuont organist and composer can concede that much, niuny contend tlmt our City Organist should bo prepared to follow suu. Tlio programme submitted on Saturday evening by Mr. Pago included William Felton's "Concerto in E Flat" (played by tho organist many times), Cesar Franck's masterly "Toccata in F," Boellmann's "Suite Gothiriue," "Elegy" from tho music to tho tragedy "King Christian II," by Sibelius (best known as the composer of "Finlandia" and ttio most eminent Finn in the sphere of musical composition), the sombre splendour of which was adroitly convoyed _by tlio player's gift for resourceful registration. "Lento" and "Andantino" movement, by tho renowned Belgian Cesar Franck, showed graceful musicianship of a higher order. Light .relief was afforded by tho inclusion in the pfogrammo of Edwin Lemaro's "Arcadian Idyll," the three movements plaved _ being "Serenade," "Musette," and Solitude," each delicately suggestive df shady woodlands and 6iinny meadows, and three Norwegian melodies of weird beauty bv Grieg. Another recital is announced for Saturday evening next.
