PEACE CELEBRATIONS
NATIONAL DANCING COMPETITIONS. The Highland and »'ational dancing competitions, which took place at Newtown Park on Saturday, July were completed on Saturday afternoon in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall. .Results were as follow:— Highland Fling (dancers under twelve years of age): Phylis M'Millan, 1; Madge Cu.rrie, 2. Irish-Jig: Maggie O'Connor, 1; Willie Brown, 2. Sailors' Hornpipe: Willie Brown, 1; Phylis M'Millan and Maggie O'Connor (equal), 2. H: was decided to give a prize to both.
Miss Doris Guise acted as judge. Mies Lily O'Lea/ry played piano' music for the first dance, and Messrs. R. and M. Campbell played the - pines for succeeding dances. Mr. D. M'Laren acted as steward, antl Mr. A. Ifarryat, sports chairman, joined with him in presenting: gold and silver medals to the winners of first and second prizes. Votes of thanks were -passed to : the judge, pianist, pipers, and steward. Mr. Marryat took occasion, on behalf of the Sports Committee, -'fo present Miss Guise ivith a small token of appreciation for the service she had rendered. The proceedings closed with the dancing of a special reel by the children and the singing of "God Save the King."
