RACE RIOTS IN AMERICA
THE OUTBREAK AT WASHINGTON. (Rec. July 27, 5.5 p.m.) New Yo'k July 20 (delayed). The New York. '"Times" Washington correspondent states that the x- co riots, in winch hundreds of whits soldiers, l&arines, sailoVs, and civilinns attacked the negroes in the sheets and on board tho tramcars, resulted in many arrests or' whites and blacks by tho police, who' had the greatest difficulty in suppressing the disordr-rs. Many victims were token to hospital. . Tho riots followed on attack's upon white women by negroes. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. (Rec. July 2S, 1.30 a.m.) Washington, July 22 (delayed). Tho authorities restored order at'lor the rioting had continued throughout most of tho night. Tho uegroos drove through the streets shooting at whito soldiers and civilians. Two whites were killed.
