-' ♦ : INCIDENT OF THE MONS RETREAT. London, July 17. A libel action has been concluded in Edinburgh by Colonel W. E. Gordon against the Dundee "People's Journal." The paper published an interview averting that he had ordered the Gordon Highlanders to surrender during tho Mons retreat. Colonel Gordon denied tlm accusation, and sajd he had ordered the men to fix bayonets, and summoned them to follow him and break through' or perish; but a subordinate officer countermanded the order.
