Shortly beforo 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon- the Briton, which had beon in the stream since tho previous morning, was berthed at the Glasgow Wharf. Tho Briton is n three-masted steamer, and sho haß two funnels which are set very widely ap.art. Sho was' built in 1897 by. Messrs. Harlaud and Wolff ut Belfast, and her owners -nro the Union-Castle Mail Stoam Ship Co., Ltd. Tho vessel's principal dimensions are as follow:—Length 530.3 ft., breadth 60.3 ft., and depth 36.2 ft, Her registered tonnago is 10,248. Between 1G97 and 1916 the vessel made a hundred voyages in the mail service. From 1916 to the present time sho has •been engaged in carrying troops, and this work' took her into most of tho world's biggest ports. Tho Briton left London on Juno 17, and had a good weather passage all tho way out till off the New Zealand coast. Captain T. Tho New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Orari, which arrived at Auckland on Sunday last, has for nearly two years been trading between Australia, and Port Said, taking frozen meat from Australia to Port Snid and returning with troops. She is to go into dock at Auckland, and after overhaul will load at New Zealand ports for London.
