Tho Canadian five-masted auxiliary schooner laurel Wlialen, which had been in port at Auckland for over six mouths, resumed her voyago to Vancouver last week. The principal cause of her long stay in port was a breakdown of her I engiiles while she ■waa on route from Sydi' uoy to Vancouver, necessitating lier putting into Aucklaud for repairs. Tho vesRels voyage so far has.been au unfortunate one from a. financial point of view. Since she left Vancouver in April, 1918, she has been. in constant trouble. On tho voyage to Adelaide sho put into Honoilulu and Sydney owing to engine trouble, and did not reach Adelaido until August 25. She returned to Sydney and loaded a mixed cargo for Vancouver, leaving on November 2. Fifteen days later her engines became useless and on Decumber 2 the second engine broke down. It was decided to make for Auckland, 2200 miles away, for repairs. She reached thero on January 2, and, had been in port ever since. While waiting for the repairs to be effected her articles expired,, and tlie crew demanded to bo paid oui This tho captain refused to do,, and the men sued tho captain for their wages i and discharge. The Supreme Court decid'.'d' t-hJt tho men were entitled to be paid oil', and made an order to that effect. Owing to the men not receiving their money after nomo considerable delay, tliey put in a claim for unpaid wages, and the eliip was arrested. Later they were given their diechargc and money and the vessel was released. A new crow was signed on and, repairs being effected to her engines, she eventually resumed her voyago.
