Vice-Regal. A Press Association message from Gisborne states that the Tutanekai, with tho Vice-Regal party on board, arrived at Gisborno at -1 p.m. yesterday from Suva. Tho vessel was to be in the bajr all night. Their Excellencies will be tendered a civic reception this morning, and at 10.30 p.m. the Tutanekai will leave for the south.

Sir James Allen will be back in Wellington from the South Island to-day.

The Hon. D. H- Guthrie, who went to Feilding for the peace celebrations, is now ill .Waiiganui. Ho intends to return to Wellington this evening.

A Press Association telegram*from Marton states:—Mr. Nicholas Andrew, aged 70. editor of the "ltangitikei Advocate." died suddenly at his residence at Gonville on Saturday evening, from heart failure.

News has been received that Mrs. John Prouse, of Clifton Terrace, and her son, Mr. William Prouse, have reached London. Later on they are to visit Milan, where Mr. George Prouse is Professor of English at the University.

The Rev. Brother Fidelis, . who has been on the staff of the Marist Brothers' School, Wellington South, for several years, has been transferred to the Sacred Hearl; College at Auckland, and left for the north yesterday afternoon. Brother Fidelis is succeeded by Brother Adrian, nf the Sacred Heart College. Brother Egbert, who has been director of the teaching staff at Wellington South, has gone to Napier.

Mr. E. A. Godsland, manager for the Jiri6tol and Dominions Producers' Association, Ltd., Bristol, is at present in Wellington on a business visit. He has arranged to leave for England on August 5.

Mr. Richard Cock, of New Plymouth, arrived 'back from Australia by the Prinzessin yesterday.

The remains of the late Patrick Sheridan, of Wellington, are being brought down _ from Gisborne for interment at •Karori. The interment will probably take place on Friday next. '

The death occurred at Wellington this week, nt the age of 75, of Mr. M.. 51. Dodd, of 8G Moleswort/t Street.. The date Mr. Dodd was employed in the Defence Department for many yeais. He leifves one son, Mr. R. H. Dodd, of Raetihi, and four daughters, Mrs. T. Kemp, 86 Molesworth Street, Mrs. C. .Prince, Tinakori Road, Mrs. .1. Taplin, Blenheim, and Mrs. W. Jewell, Foxton.

Mr. C. R. IPXean, of Dunedin, has been appointed secretary to the Otago High School Board of Governors.

The Mayor of Eastbourne (Mr. Mather) has been appointed by tho council to represent that body at the Municipal Association's Conference.

The chief executive officer of the Dominion Riilo Association (Colonel R. J. Collins, C.M.G.) has sent a cable'message to Sergeant Loveday, the winner of the lung's Prize at Bisley, tendering him tho congratulations of tho association , on his great achievement.

Mr. A. C. l'hilpott,. who for-the past five years has been stationed at Wnnganui as district agent and registrar of live, stock brands tor the Department lof Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce, has been appointed to the position of district clerk and accountant for tho Auckland district, under tho new organ, isation of tho Department. Mr. Philpott will loave for Auckland early in neit month.

Mr. John Brandor is retiring from the position of secretary of' the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., in London, and Mr." George Reid has been appointed to succeed him. Mr. "Brander's connection with the company extends over a period exceeding forty years, and lie has held the post of secretary for about twenty-five years.

Tho appointment of Mr, C. R, M'Lean, who has been for some tirao in the service of the Education Board at Dunedin, as secretary of tho Otago High Schools Board was confirmed 'last week by tho Board of Governors. He enlisted with tlio- Otngo Regiment, left New Zealand with tho Main Body of the Expeditionary Force, and 'took part in the landing at Gallipoli. whero he was slightly wounded. There were 10 applicants ftfr the position, whicli was rendered vacant through tho retirement of Mr. T. J. Noss.

Mr. C. S. Neville, who has been Inspector of Stock in South Canterbury for the past ten years, has been appointed to a newly-created position, that of supervisor of soldiers' farms. He will jw located iu Christchurch,

Tho funeral took place on Friday morning Inst at Karori of the Into Mrs." Georgo Walsh, one of Wellington's okl identities, and better remembered as Mrs. B. Whiteford, widow of the late Mr. Archibald Whiteford, of Flagstaff Hill, an old and rcspectod resident of Wellington since tho early sixties, and one of the founders of Wellington's first volunteer fire brigade. The deceased lndy, who was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Evans, early pioneers, was born in Wellington in 1849, and lived for many ycras at the family residence at Flagstaff Hill. When She was married to Mr. George Walsh, she went .to reside at Lower Hutt. Her death from pleurisy took place last Wednesday at a private hospital!). She has left a famil" of two sons and three daughters (Messrs. Charles Whiteford,. of Blenheim, Archibald Whiteford, of Wanpanui, Mrs. William Toomnth, of Wellington, Mrs. Charles Radeliffe, and Mrs. F. Buxton Rogers, of , Palmerston North, also 15 grandchildren and four great-grand-children.
