Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report:—At our uituA fortnightly sale of hides and tallow small catalogues wore submitted to u. good attendance of buyera.. As usual tho tanners selected those lines suitable for their requirements at schedule rates, and the balance of the hides were submitted to auction. These met with particularly keen competition, and prices for light ox nud\mcdium and light-weight cow's 'Showed an advance of from 2d. to 2jd. per lb. Yearling! in particular were in keen demand, and some lines went as high as 2Kd. per lb. So light-weight calfskins were offered, but are beta* hold for sale at a later date. Tallow was again very ilrin, and prices showed an advance of from 2b. to 4s. ner cwt. Wo Quote :-Hidcß: Oi. medium, 601b. nu, 12id. to 14Jd-; or. medium. 50-Mlb., ÜBd. to 13jd.; ox, light, 491b. and under, 103 d. to 16}; cow, heavy, 551b. and under, IOJd. to 14J4.J cow, medium. 421b. to 641b., Ud. 'to 163 d.; eoiv, light, under 4!1b., Ud. to 16Jd.; cut, slippy, and inferior. BJd. to 16d.; bull Btag, 85d. to 12j!d.; yearlings, 161b. to 241b., 12Jd. to 213 d.; calf, superior, up to 161b., 193 d. to 2f11d.; calf, medium-good, up to lClb.i 18d.; calf, damaged, lCd. to 17d. Tallow:' In casks, 675. 6d. to 665.; In tins, etc.. 40s. to 555. • ' Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Co., Ltd., roport:-The bulk of tho lota wore taken by tanncra, under Government schedule rates. Tho remainder sold under tho hammer at exceedingly good, prices, ranging from 2d. to Md. ■ per lb. above schedule rates. Tallow was in keen demand, at slight advance on last The New 'Zealand Farmers' Co-op. Distributing Co.', Ltd.. report that at the usual fortnightly sale there was a large attendance of buyers, and competition was very keen; all nricea advanced! considerably on practically all hides offered. The advance was most married on kips of I 201b. and over. Only a few lines were taken by tanners from our cataloguo at tho registered Government schedule; of prices, which are now considerably below the open market rates. Tallow also was in, particularly good demand, and shows further rises in pricea of about 2a. 6d. to ss. per cwt. „. Messrs. Murray, Eobertß and Co., Ltd.. report :-Oompetition was of the keenest order, exporters buyinsr freely at advanced prices. We secured the top prices of tho *ale for cow hidcß at 16? d., and a nice line of yearlings at 2ijd. Bull hides made- up to 124 d.. and liuht, ox up to HJJd. Tallow was in good demand at last sale's prices. . , Messrs. Levin and Co. Limited, report:Competition wna exceedingly keen for an lotß not selected by tanners, consequently we quitted the whole of our cataloguo. Super and medium cow and ox sold at «d and sd. per lb. respectively above the Government schedule prices, whilst superior sorts and Wps sold readily at an advance of from Ud. to 6Jd. per lb. upon last rates. . Abraham mi Williams Ltd., rcport:-All hides offered realised their .true valiw. with tho exception of medium and heavy ox, which were taken by local tanners under schedule at prices much below open market rates for light and medium cows. Prices for all lines showed an increase above last sale rates to the extent of 1&. to 3d. per lb.
