Tlie funeral of the Into Eev. Father Barry, C.S.S.R., took place at Karori Cemetery .on Friday. Mass wae celebrated at St. Gerard's Monastery at 9 o'clock on Friday morning. Dean Holly, S.M., sung the Mass, Father O'Connor, S.M., acted as the deacon, and Father Quiley was the Assisting the Archbishop at the throne were Archdeacon Devoy, S.M., and Father Maugan, C.S.S.R. There was a largo gathering of priests and also a large attendance of the public. After the Mass Father Whelan, C.S.S.R, addressed a few words to the congregation. Ho raid that the late Father had died a peaceful and happy death. The Absolution was jriven by Dean Holly and immediately following the cortege left for the cemetery at Karovi. Father Wlielan, S.M., conducted the service at the gravesido.

Andrew Cameron, 8.A., Chancellor of the University of.Otago. on the well-mer-ited distinction of Who Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws, to bo conferred on him this month by the University of Edinburgh, which comes with peculiar grace at this time in anticipation of our approaching jubilee celebrations. The members of tho board recognise t ; hat the remarkable progress of the University of Otngn in recent years, which is evident, not "only in the large number of students in attendance, but also in Iho efficiency of the instruction given, is dun in very large measuro to the groat sagacity, enlightened policy, and untiring energy of Dr. Cameron, who has filled liis high office of Chancellor with rare ability and distinction. Tho members of the board aro not onlv deeply grateful to Dr. Cameron for all that ho has done for the University of Otago; but they cherish towards him feelings of tho warmest friendship; and it is their earnest prayer that he may bo long spared to do further | work for flio Univorsity, nnd to wear the high honour that the University of Edinburgh is about to confer.upon him.
