THE-NEW AGREEMENT. «-The following are the main points 01 ;the agreement made on June 21 between the Wellington district of the Australasian Institute of Marine Engineers and the Anchor SliijjpinEr and Foundry Company, Limited, Nelson, tho Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Liurted, Dunedin, and .the Westport Coal Company, Limited, Dunedin:— Wages, "The rates of wages to be paid per calendar month to engineers employed on steamers -belonging to the employers shall be, as follow:— "On the basis of the nominal horse power of each steamer: (a)' Between 8u and 100 n.h.p., chief, .£32; second, Mi; third, 4!21 10s. (b) 100 and under 150 n.h.p., chief, ,£33; second, £24; third. <£21 10s. (c) 150 and under/ 200 n.h.p., chief, .£34; second, ,£26; third, J22. • (d; 200 and linder 250 n.h.p., chief, ,£36 10s.: second, ,£27; third, £23; fourth. 10s.. (e) 250 and under 350 n.h.p., chief, £39; second, £27; third, «£23; fourth, £li, 10s. (f) 350 and under 450 n.h.p., chief, ,£'4l; second, .£2B; third, .£24; fourth. .£2l. (g) 450 and under 600 n.h.p., chief, <£43 10s.; second ,£29 10s:; third, £2i. fourth, ,£2l. (li) JSOO and under 800 n.h.n., chief, <£45 10s.; second, £29 10s.; third, ,£24; £21. (i) 800 and under 100(7 n.h.p., cluef, .£4B; second, ,£3l; third, <£25 10s.; fourth, ,£22 10s. (j) 100'n.h.p. or over, chief, =£50; second, ,£32; third., =£26 10s.; fourth, ,£23 10s. "All under the rank of fourth en gineer, £1G 10s. per month. Tho above scale does not prescribe the number of engineers to be carried in any steanier. Holidays. "After twelve mouths' continuous service with- the employers, engineers shall be entitled, in each year, to leave of absence 011 full sea pay (without victualling allowance) at such time as the employers shall determine, as follows:— Chief engineers, twentv-one days; al. other engineers, fourteen days. Application of Agreement. "This agreement shall apply only to steamers for which articles are taken out in New Zealand, and shall not in any enso apply to: (a) Steamers employed in the inier-Stato trades of Australia; (b) steamers employed in trading with the United Kingdom (c) the steamers Terawhiti, Natone, and Tuatea, or to any other steamers of the same character which may be employed in addition i'i or in substitution for the said steamers. "The wages and conditions fixed by this agreement shall be made retrospective lo April 1, 1919. "This agreement shall come into force from June 21. and shall' continue in force until March 31. 1922."
