MODERATE.LEAGUE CONFERENCE. A meeting of the central executive of the New Zealand Moderate League was held yesterday, when it was decided, pursuant to the lea-rue's determination to support the new issue of State purchase and control at the forthcoming elections, that a conference of the various branches should bo held for tho purpose of formulating a definite detailed policy as a guide to .the electors before the poll is taken. Meantime the branch committees throughout the Dominion are being asked to consider and advise on the following questions:— , 1. National control: Whether it would conduce to the most effective management if some form of local sub-control or advisory authority were adopted under national direction. , ; 2. Local control: The question of what form of local sub-controlling or advisory authority should be adopted under Stat'o control. How such authoritv should bo constituted. The method of appointment of such authority. The question of division of districts. 3. Alteration of service: The advisablencss of introducing tho cafo system. Tho question of e.btlishiiig privato liars and slides, and substituting the open bar therefor. Tho question of the strength of liquors and salo by measurement. Tho provision of non-alcoholic refreshments. ; The provision' of supplementary amuse-1 ments, rest'rooms, etc. ! 4. Accommodation for travelling public: I How to cope with tho accommodation { question and maintain this service at tho i highest standard. S._ Reduction or transfer of hotels in various districts under State ownership. Note: Under Stnto ownership this question can bo approached with the knowledge that closing one hotel docs not mean creating increased trade and monopoly for another man as would bo the caso under private ownership. No changes would lie contemplated unless clearly shown to bo in the interests of the Slate and of belter control. The question is whether redistribution ov reduction on practical lines would be of benefit. 1
